Fly-fish the famed Battenkill. Watch birds build their nests in the wetlands. Hunt for antiques or browse the flea markets. Watch the green move up the mountainside.
Hike mountain and forest trails. Bike Country roads. Canoe down the Battenkill. Swim in streams, lakes or the old quarry. Enjoy summer theatre or an outdoor concert.
Capture the beauty of the fall foliage on film or canvas. Take Mt. Equinox Skyline Drive to the top for the view. Jog the back roads and exercise your body and spirit.

AREA ACTIVITIES FOR SPRING, SUMMER, and FALL
We have a mile of Battenkill River frontage on our 50 acre property. Come fish this famous trout river on your own, or contact a knowledgeable local guide who will also be able to supply you with all the equipment you need. Orvis approved guides include Peter Basta and Chuck Kashner. A fishing license is required and can be obtained online. And don't forget to check out the new American Museum of Fly Fishing.
CANOEING, KAYAKING AND TUBING
Enjoy a warm day canoeing down the Battenkill. Take in the sites along this picturesque river in your own canoe, or rent one from Battenkill Canoe LTD.
Come hike the trails of the Green Mountain National Forest, Mount Equinox, or one of the State Parks in the area. There is access to the Appalachian Trail in our Green Mountain National Forest nearby. We can supply you with information on many of the trails in the area. For easy nature trails and challenging day long hikes visit the Merck Forest.
Bring your bicycle and ride around the area - we can provide you with suggested routes. See all the sites from the Bennington Monument to the Marble Quarry in Dorset, and much more. Rentals are available at Battenkill Sports.
Tee times at the private Manchester Country Club may be arranged through the Inn. Equinox Golf Club and Mt. Anthony Country Club are nearby and tee times may be reserved up to a week in advance. Stratton Golf offers three separate 9-hole courses and you can reserve online.
Novices or expert riders are welcome at both Mountain View Ranch and Horses for Hire.
For a true Vermont experience try swimming at the old marble quarry in Dorset, or spend an afternoon at Emerald Lake in Manchester or Lake Shaftsbury a few miles south, where there are sandy beaches, rental boats, and concession stands.
Visit Hildene, Robert Todd Lincoln's restored Georgian mansion, the Bennington Museum, the Bennington Center for the Arts, the Normal Rockwell Gallery in Arlington, Robert Frost Museum and Home, the Park McCollough House, the Bennington Monument, the Southern Vermont Art Center, the Covered Bridge Museum, and the American Museum of Fly Fishing.
Tour the back roads of Southern Vermont. Mt. Equinox's Skyline Drive is just a half-mile away gives you a great view of the Hill Farm property and the whole valley. Backroad Discovery Tours takes small groups off the beaten path, but be sure to reserve in advance.
Nearly every town in Southern Vermont has an Antique Center and there are numerous antique fairs and shows throughout the summer and fall. The Manchester Designer Outlets offer over 50 name brand shops with savings up to 70% off retail. A number of galleries offer a fine art and local arts, crafts and collectables, including the Vermont State Craft Center, Frog Hollow, in Manchester. Other favorites include the Orvis flagship store, the Vermont Country Store and Northshire Books.
THEATER AND LIVE PERFORMANCES
Enjoy a matinee or an evening performance at one of our area playhouses: the Dorset Theatre Festival, Old Castle Theatre Company in Bennington, and The Weston Playhouse. Concerts by
The Vermont Symphony Orchestra, the Manchester Music Festival as well as touring performers are held at a number of local sites including the Southern Vermont Art Center, Hildene and Riley Rink.
AREA ACTIVITIES FOR WINTER
Down Hill Skiing/Snowboarding
Southern Vermont has many wonderful opportunities for downhill skiing. The two major ski areas near the Arlington area are Stratton Mountain and Bromely Mountain. Both mountains have full equipment rental, ski schools and excellent snowmaking and grooming capability.
Cross Country Skiing
Southern Vermont has some of the best cross country skiing available in the east. There are several touring centers available offering trails at all levels of skiing ability and full support services such as rental shops and lessons. Nearby, Hildene, Wild Wings and Viking Nordic offer equipment rental, instruction and groomed trails. We also have 50 acres of land here at Hill Farm. If you have your own equipment you are welcome to cross country ski, snowshoe, or ice skate on our grounds as well.
Over the river and through the woods. We can make arrangements for you to take a ride along beautiful mountainside trails and fields on a horse drawn sleigh or wagon. Reservations are required for most all businesses that run these sleigh rides. Rides are available from Mountain View Ranch, Lively's Livery, Horses for Hire and Pfister Farms.
Skating is available all winter at Riley Rink @ Hunter Park, an Olympic size ice rink. Figure and hockey skate rentals are available, there is a warm room for sitting and watching, as well as a concession stand.
Vermont has a wonderful network of snowmobile trails. If you belong to a Vermont Association of Snow Travelers (VAST) Club, bring your snowmobile - we have plenty of room for you to park. Equinox Snow Tours offers guided 1-˝ and 3 hour snowmobile tours that include use of their equipment. Clothing rentals are also available.
If you have your own sled access to the VAST trail system is just minutes away in Arlington, and trail permits are available locally. If your sled is registered in your home state, Vermont registration is not necessary.
Bring your snowshoes, or rent them locally from EMS and snowshoe here at Hill Farm Inn or take on the trail up to the top of Mount Equinox. Trails and rentals are also available at nearby Hildene.
In addition to their ski slopes, snow tubing is available at Magic Mountain in Londonderry.
